This dataset contains maps of the surface temperature of snow acquired at the Col du Lautaret (French Alps) every 2 minutes during winter 2021-2022 with an uncooled thermal infrared camera (TIR), timeseries of RGB images of the scene acquired every 10 minutes during operation of the TIR camera, timeseries of the surface temperature acquired every 30 seconds at two distinct points in the camera’s field of view, and the TIR camera’s internal temperature.

Lineage

This dataset was produced in the context of the preparation of the CNES/ISRO TRISHNA mission during a PhD co-funded by CNES (Centre National d'Études Spatiales). It contains 79563 maps of the surface temperature of snow acquired at the Col du Lautaret (45.0347 N, 6.4051 E, 2057 m a.s.l.) every 2 minutes during winter 2021-2022 with an Optris PI640i thermal infrared camera. They are singleband, and the surface temperature data is in float32 format, 464x506 pixel wide at 2 m resolution in the EPSG:32632 projection. The dataset also includes timeseries of RGB images of the scene acquired every 10 minutes during operation of the TIR camera, timeseries of the surface temperature acquired every 30 seconds at two distinct points in the camera’s field of view (AWS-North, 45.0308 N 6.3946 E, and AWS-South, 45.0335 N 6.3950) and the TIR camera’s internal temperature. Images were acquired between 2021-11-20 and 2022-05-12. The images were filtered for foggy and snowy conditions, processed radiometrically and orthoprojected on a digital elevation model. The radiometric accuracy on snow-covered soil is 1.28 K (mean absolute error). Orthoprojection accuracy is 4.3 m (median projection error). The dataset contains 24 zip files. Every file corresponds to a week of the year (starting each Monday), for example 2022_w06.zip refers to week 6 of the year 2023. Data was produced and processed by Université Grenoble-Alpes and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, Institut des Géosciences de l'Environnement). Data is property of the Université Grenoble-Alpes (Institut des Géosciences de l'Environnement) and the Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES).
