Physico-chemical monitoring of soil solutions under a spruce stand (named VP)

Physico-chemical data of soil water under an old spruce stand planted around 1900. A sample is taken every eight weeks at several depth for laboratory analysis. The depths are 5cm, 10cm, 30cm and 60cm for, respectively F-5, F-10, F-30, F-60. Parameters measured are pH, conductivity (µS/cm), Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC, ppm), and molar concentrations of Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, NH4+, Cl-, NO3- and SO42- (µmol/l). Since July 2013, the trees have been damaged by attacks from bark beetles (macrophagous insect pests), leading to the death of individual trees. Several sanitary cuttings were carried out in 2014, 2019 and 2022. Since autumn 2022, no trees dating back to the 1900 plantation have survived. A new series FN-5, FN-10, FN-30, FN-60 was activated after the bark beetle attack in 2015 until the total felling of the plot in 2023. Soil solutions are sampled using zero-tension lysimeter plates.

4) Data processing: The data are then compiled in a global excel file, including all analyses, by study site and in chronological order. A data verification and validation stages are then carried using python (calculation of ionic balance, search for outliers, temporal monitoring, study of trends). Once the data has been validated, a csv file is generated, which is then fed into the BDOH database.
