Plaine des Fougères (under canopy)

CDS THEIA-OZCAR
Source

The geosphere dataset from station PFFr1290, located under the forest canopy at Plaine des Fougères, has been operational since April 2015, with measurements recorded at 15-minute intervals until February 2025, after which the sampling frequency was increased to 5-minute intervals. It includes soil moisture measurements from three Campbell CS616 TDR sensors installed at depths of 8-38 cm, 35-65 cm, and 54-84 cm, as well as soil temperature measured at 40 cm depth using a Van Essen CTD Diver. Volumetric Water Content (VWC), also referred to as water reflectometry, is derived from the raw period values of the CS616 sensors using the formula: VWC = (-0.018 - 0.007·period + 0.0006·period²) × 100. A temperature-corrected VWC is also computed using: VWC = period + (20 - temperature) × (0.526 - 0.052·period + 0.00136·period²), providing more accurate moisture estimates under variable thermal conditions.
