Lineage

The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission aims to provide valuable data and information about the world's oceans and its terrestrial surface water such as lakes, rivers, and wetlands. SWOT is being developed jointly by National Aeronautics ab Space Administration (NASA) and Centre National D'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), with contributions from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA). SWOT successfully launched on December 16, 2022. Since then, over land, SWOT provides measurements of water storage changes (surface water area and water depth) of major lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and wetlands, and support derived estimates of river discharge, which aid in assessing water resources. SWOT observes rivers wider than 100 m and lakes with a surface area of 6,25 hectares or more (i.e., an outline of 250 m x 250 m).

On this platform, you can find, visualize, plot and download the full set of Level-2 High Resolution (L2 HR) collections focusing on continental surfaces.

The secondary series of L2 HR collections includes:
- "SWOT Level-2 HR Raster 100m",
- "SWOT Level-2 HR Raster 250m".,
The products of such collections are defined over elementary granules called "Scene" of 128 km x 128 km spawning all continental surfaces and strategic oceanic region for cross-calibration called "HR Mask". Typically, one raster scene contains 4 tiles.

The present collection provides the SWOT Scene-based HR Mask operating during the SWOT calibration/validation phase. During this period, active from end-March 2023 to mid-July 2023, the revisit period was of 1 day only.

The present collection provides the SWOT Scene-based Mask operating during the SWOT calibration/validation phase, For this layer, base tiles are extended to 80 km in range. During this period, active from end-March 2023 to mid-July 2023, the revisit period was of 1 day only. In the vector file, scene name is retrieved by the "TILE_REF" attribute. You can refer to the SWOT L2 HRRaster Product Description Document , section "3. Product Structure", to learn more on the tile naming convention. Briefly, each scene name is of the form PPP_SSSF where:
- {PPP} is the pass number, taking value between "001" and "028",
- {SSS} is the scene number.

Other attributes in the vector file are:
- "PASS_NUM" as the pass number,
- "TILE_NUM" as the scene number.
