SMOS enhanced resolution brightness temperature and melt maps on Antarctica and Greenland

EasyData
Source

This product contains enhanced resolution brightness temperature (TB) and melt maps obtained from the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite. Twice-daily estimations of both TB and melt were carried out from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2024. The resolution enhancement process is based on the radiometer version of the Scatterometter Image Reconstruction (rSIR) algorithm (Long and Daum, 1998, https://doi.org/10.1109/36.662726) applied to SMOS Level 1C data near 40° incidence. The melt detection algorithm is adapted from Leduc-Leballeur et al., 2020 (https://doi.org/10.5194/tc-14-539-2020). Four datasets are available: - SMOS twice-daily enhanced resolution TB on Antarctica - SMOS twice-daily melt (wet/dry) status on Antarctica - SMOS twice-daily enhanced resolution TB on Greenland - SMOS twice-daily melt (wet/dry) status on Greenland All maps are posted on a 12.5 km polar stereographic grid. The coordinate systems employed are the WGS 84 / NSIDC Sea Ice Polar Stereographic South (EPSG:3976) and North (EPSG:3413) for Antarctica and Greenland, respectively. The effective spatial resolution was evaluated to ~30 km. For more information, see the referenced preprint (Zeiger et al., 2024, https://cnrs.hal.science/hal-04623759, in review in RSE).
